Botulinum toxin type A, or Botox for short, is a neurotoxin that has been used successfully in wrinkle therapy for many years. The properties of Botox have also proven useful for medical indications such as excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), migraines, teeth grinding or vaginismus. The active ingredient, often incorrectly referred to as “nerve poison,” inhibits the transmission of stimuli between nerve cells and muscles. This prevents the muscle from contracting. A treatment usually lasts 10 - 15 minutes - depending on the area of application and extent. The Botox is injected into the affected areas using a very fine injection needle. It is important to avoid thermal wellness and saunas for the next few days.
